Redefining All-Wheel Drive for Wisconsin Winters

Redefining All-Wheel Drive for Wisconsin Winters

When winter hits Madison, driving conditions change in an instant. Ice, sleet, and heavy snow demand a vehicle that doesn't just cope with the elements but masters them. At Audi Madison, part of the Zimbrick family, we offer the solution to Wisconsin's harshest weather: the legendary Audi quattro all-wheel drive.

Since 1980, quattro has defined what it means to drive with confidence. It isn't just a safety feature; it is a promise that you remain in control, delivering power precisely where you need it, when you need it.

Why quattro is Built for the Badger State

Driving in Wisconsin requires more than just four moving wheels. It requires intelligence. The quattro system adapts instantly to changing road surfaces, whether you are navigating a slick commute down the Beltline or heading north for a weekend getaway.

Benefits for the Wisconsin Driver
  • Superior Traction: Grip the road securely even when surfaces are unpredictable.

  • Enhanced Safety: Feel the stability in every corner, reducing the risk of slipping on icy patches.

Dynamic Handling: Enjoy a sporty, responsive drive year-round, not just when the sun is shining.

Precision Engineering: How It Works

Audi does not believe in a "one size fits all" approach. The quattro drive comes in specialized versions, customized to fit the specific engine and chassis of each model. This ensures you get the perfect balance of efficiency and power.

Customized for Your Drive

  • Compact Agility: In our compact series with transversely mounted engines, we utilize a multi-disc clutch with hydraulic actuation and electronic control mounted on the rear axle. For the R8 mid-engine sports car, this clutch is located on the front axle. These active systems distribute forces variably to both axles based on real-time driving situations.

  • Classic Power: For models with a front-mounted longitudinal engine, we use a self-locking center differential. This purely mechanical epicyclic gear normally sends drive torque to the front and rear axles in a 40:60 ratio, providing that classic rear-biased Audi feel.

  • Peak Performance: For top-tier motorization, the sport differential on the rear axle takes handling to the next level. Using two superposition stages with electro-hydraulic multi-disc clutches, it actively distributes torque between the rear wheels. In extreme corners, it can send almost all torque to one wheel, effectively pushing the car into the bend and eliminating understeer before it starts.
